Happy Birthday Jayce!

And what would a message from Los Angeles be without an outtake?

Cheers to a great year of fun and adventures! We miss all three of you.

Love, Matt, Sarah & Spencer!

Jayce Mon is fortysomething

Jayce - GOOD!

We treasure moments shared with you
We get a glimpse of all that's true
For light and love is there with you
And saying it will be with us too!

We feel as if we've grown up together, sharing our lives, our hearts, our children.  La la la la la la Reno Reno, la la la la la la Reno - raspberry.  By the way, that foot is now a size 10.5!

Elliot is soooooooo lucky!

You brighten our days even though you're 2048 miles away.  We listen to your music on a daily basis and it conjures up all sorts of remarkable memories - the crazy swing, of Corsica, camping, bowling, fire pit nights, Tuscon, tequila, totally doables, haircuts.

We adore you Jayce. We are the lucky recipients of your love, friendship and generosity of spirit. You're an amazing role model for Reno and truly are a brother from another mother.

Can't wait to celebrate together and create new memories.

Hugs and love - Howard, Elaine & Reno

Happy Birthday Jayce!

Jayce
An incredible father and a brilliant businessman who maintains an incredible sense of humor and generosity. A valuable friend who is willing to teach, inspire, and give advice. He can create some really nice music too.

All this
and he’s only 40!
Who is this guy??

He’ll also wait to see Avatar with you- even if it’s sold out- TWICE- and then be willing to listen afterwards when you complain that it’s not as good as everyone said.

Have a great 40th and we wish you all the best of luck and happiness this year!!
Sean

Dearest Jayce-

We met so long ago. I won't mention a number. Can you believe it? Alright it's over twenty years ago, dare I say twenty five? But, neither of us look old because forty isn't old. I'm a first time Mama at forty which has made me feel old. But I think our kids just make us act younger and younger and pretty soon we will be sharing stories of how you and I used to "compete" in high school. Drama geek anyone? Even though, we went to different high schools, I always looked forward to seeing you at our Speech Competitions. They were so much fun.
Moving to L.A. and reconnecting with you was such a gift. Sean and I were inspired by your talent, creativity and absolutely loved seeing you shine on stage.  Nashville needs some Jayce Murphy. They are lucky to have you. And thank you for all the wisdom and friendship during my pregnancy and the birth of Harley. I love ya Jayce.

Happy, Happy Birthday!
Debi

Happy birthday, Jayce!

I haven't known you long, but i can certainly say that you're a great guy and a good friend. We're so glad to have you guys here in Nashville. I look forward getting to know you and your family even more, whether it be over beer, Irish singing, hiking, or pool parties on our back porch. :o)

Rob

You're too young to be 40

I can't believe that I actually figured out how to post on a blog!  So instead of celebrating your 40th, I am celebrating that you can, in fact, teach an old dog a new trick.  Which, when you consider, does get us back around to your birthday....welcome to middle age my dear friend.  (I say "dear friend" because I may not actually remember your name. This happens sometimes.  And yes, it could be in reference to someone you've known and loved for nearly 20 years.)  Anyway, I digress.  Enjoy 40.  It's a great year.  Happy the hell out of it!  xoxox, Amy (Ahem, the original.)

"Hey, aren't you in my drama class?"

The seven words that changed my life.  Who knew the funny guy sitting in front of me was going to have the biggest impact in my life that anyone (save Rick & "Lindaaaaa!!!") had had or would ever have.  The year that followed was nothing short of magic as my life was literally transformed.  Up until then I had always sat on the sidelines watching others shine but that funny freckled-faced kid who made all the girls (as well as the guys) laugh   brought out the funny kid in me and like some heretofore undiscovered alchemy, we bonded for life and were inseparable.  The drama school antics, the all night basement sleepovers, the call on Christmas morning in which you excitedly told me you got A GUITAR, the ill-fated trip to Birmingham (squash, why did it have to be squash) where you met another brother from another mother, Forrest (chicken tendez!) the stop in Demopolis that tested our bond: high temperatures and even higher tempers, oppressive humidity, White Wolf sprawled in graffiti, our brief but glorious careers as songwriting partners, you making my mom laugh until she cried during an otherwise uneventful game of Scrabble, and your indignant response to my relative's query "Do you like barbeque?"  Pure gold.

"The Mouse That Roared." "Bye Bye Birdie."  Our mutual love for girls and Van Halen.  Summer nights.  Stellar Cellar. "Little Guitars." Circus magazine.  Hit Parader.  Pinwheels and Mountain Dew.  The illicit joy of contraband Playboys.   Marianne Gravatte.  The Eddie poster.  The fresh smell of brand new cassette tapes.  "The Last Horror Film."  Channel 99.  Heavy metal videos on "Night Flight" and not MTV.   The piece de resistance that was "1984."  Kiss' "Asylum" vs. Yngwie Malmsteen.  Our nascent co-directing ventures: "Alone Again," " L.O.V.E. Machine," and "Smokin' in the Boys Room" shot in grainy security camera video.  "Invasion of Your Privacy."  The return of Marianne Gravatte.  "Amadeus," "Witness" (Jo??) and "Dune" (thumbs down.) The discovery of The Lucky Bean.  The detention sentence heard 'round the school.  Jo's handwritten note of despair.  "Trick or Treat."  "Sid & Nancy" ("Can't y'all watch anything better than that?)  "Shit, that's hot!!!"   John and Joyce Ann vs. the porch swing.  The daily stare-offs with Johnny.  The impending arrival of Justin ("I've got nine months to get used to the idea.")  Moon boots.  Prank calls regarding big noses.  Battle of the Bands.  "Iron Man" ad nauseum.  "Theater of Pain."  The invention of clear cassette tapes.  Eric Johnson.  Stanley Jordan.  Ratt N' Roll.  Rockin' With Dokken.  Clownin' With Brown.  Autograph. "2010: The Sequel...Hell!"  "Pressed For a Sequel."  Going on location.;) Diamond Dave leaves VH.  "Summer of '69: those were the best days of my life."  Truer words...

The move to Naperville.  The end of junior high, the beginning of our next phase.  The anticipation of your latest cassette tapes in the mail.  Your growing prowess as a home recording artist.  "Doubling the vocal line makes the voice seem stronger."  "Jayce." "Progressions Expressions."  "Metaphysical Dream World." The Deem/Murphy Experience.  Your trip in Damon's Corvette.  Rush, natch.  "Video Hell."  Van Hagar and the first box of "5150" tapes.  "Rocky shot a hole in his head."  Snickering during "The Last Temptation of Christ."  The Field becomes the 5150 Field.  Stars at night.  High school blues.  The miles between us deepening our bond.  Killer Kroger shopping carts.  Kevin Clean and the Case of the Commandeered Video Footage.   Who's this Chris Tisone fellow?   Swapping homecoming horror stories.  Skidding station wagons and the coining of the term "flopperoo."   Kristin Kliner - hubba hubba.   Graduation.    Jayce is moving to Chicago!!!  A long four years but worth the wait.

Columbia College.  El train to Granville.  Marcia.  The infamous Cubs game outing wherein you gave me my first drunk.  Wasting away in Margaritaville.  "Everything is a perfect sky." Thee Dollhouse.  Worst.  Lapdance.  Ever.  "Our special on Sunday.." (slap) You getting the itch to go out west.  Your going away party.  Ani.:)  Four years go by in a blur.  Gone, baby, gone.  Now what?

L.A.  Great Moments In Bad Planning.  You welcoming with me sage...and Sage.  My heavy heart.  Dina Bogina (ok, Bogino.)  The Subway Killer.   Do over!

Take 2.  New Hampshire shenanigans.  You teaching me poker.  My first high (cough, hack.) Westmoreland.  You vs. the musical horn.  Your first gig at Highland Grounds.  "Thank you, good night!"  @#$%!!! The mother#$%&ing Roxy ("world famous Roxy.")  A new cast of characters: Drew, Howard, Elaine, Bunga.  Tucson.  Behnken wedding in the desert.  You and Bunga bungling the babes.  "Must. Keep. Complaining."  My one one last stand.  Dry heaves on the way to the airport.  Flying home hungover.  Never again (sadly.)

Kristin.

Downtown meets for lunch.  Chow fun.  Shakey's pizza.  The @#$% your pants story.  Stealing paint.  Brass Monkey.  You breaking the news re: you and "Krissy" moving in.  Are you convincing me or yourself, Jayce?;)   Your desert bachelor party.   Tripping the night...fantastic.  "Put down the trail mix, Luke!"  Crazy Girls.  "I'll Wait."  The Cheetah's fiasco ("I don't think your friend enjoyed it.")  Mass Jager exodus.  Me propping you up.  Bush 1, Jayce 0.  Guess I'll clean that door tomorrow.  Genghis Cohen and the birth of Jason Roe.  KCRW.  Jennifer Z and Emma Jane.  Your wedding.  e.e. cummings.  Monkeybread.   More characters:  Amy, Dupree, Wendy, Bo.  ConCEPtual.  The apocryphal video for "She." Spoiling Sage.   Bowling league with The Surgeon.  Goodbye Westmoreland, hello Park La Brea.  Game nights with Amy "The Laugh Track" Rachlin ("Don't forget your Force!")  BBQs.  Holidays.  Birthdays "On The Beach."  St. Patrick's Day cheeses.

Elliot.

The Murphy nose.  The Godfather.  Missing her 1st birthday (worst. godfather. ever.)  Strolls through the park.  Meals at the Farmer's Market.   Kings in the Corner with Joyce Ann.  Tears of laughter.  WaJeTeHo!  Nashville's shadow looms.

The Day.  Sheer dread.  Packed cars, pods, and U-Haul.  The 3rd time we say goodbye.  Goodbye, friend.

But not for good.

25 years.  A quarter of a century.  1/3 of the average life span.  Golden years.

"Hey, aren't you in my drama class?"

Happy 40th Birthday to my best friend.

Love Always,

Wardly (T-Diddy, T-Dub)

People used to think Jayce and I were dating

Even though he thought he looked really cool, I still hung out with him.
Jayce always knew how to blow.
My kids love Uncle Jayce.
Before everyone had cellphones, and the internet was only for dorks,  Jayce and I would hang out all the time...Everyone thought we were dating...

"Wanna buy a piano?"

Always great to see Jayce sing on a stage.

A little toast to our very favorite Murphy on his 40th Birthday:

“There are good ships and there are wood ships, the ships that sail the sea.
But the best ships, are friendships, and may they always be.”

We miss you and wish we could be there to celebrate with you.

All our love,

Happy Birthday Jayce!!!

Wow, where to begin on such a special occasion? Somehow, I’ve always thought of you as my big brother, even though you’re WAY younger than me… you are a teensy bit taller so there is that. All my memories of our spending time together are incredibly special to me… and not just because you always make me laugh my butt off (a definite bonus), or because you taught me how to be a responsible car owner, or troubleshoot my computer (again, all bonusii, but …) I think we are kindred spirits, similar in so many ways… and I learn so much having you in my life. I am constantly amazed by all the information you’ve got going on in your brain. There have been so many times when we’re talking about some new topic, and as you speak, I find myself thinking: Why does Jayce know about this...? or, Ouch, I think my brain just got bigger.
I love that feeling!
Be sure to enjoy the memories you form this year because after 40 your short-term memory is toast. I miss you three on a regular basis and can’t wait to see you all as soon as possible so we can celebrate your chronological aging and eat cake! Wishing you love and happiness on your big day – please ask Kristin to give you a big hug from me.
I love you – Amy
Ps. The photo was taken at my 40th! xo

Happy 40th Birthday Jayce

Happy Birthday !! Hope you have a great day celebrating with family and friends.

Jayce is 40? Dang that's old!

As I recall, your wedding day was bright sunny and I was just getting to know you both. I was impressed by the number and quality of the friends my wife, Leslie had introduced, many of whom were in attendance at that blessed event.
.
The lovely and heartfelt ceremony was highlighted by the release of hundreds of butterflies, quite an inspirational moment, to say the least. A new beginning for the two of you and the start of a wonderful friendship.
.
Later, I had the pleasure of attending several performances of someone called "Jason Roe," who bears a striking resemblance to my friend, Jayce Murphy with incredible musical talents and an awesome voice.
.
Happy birthday Jayce! Don't worry, 40 isn't all that old... See you soon! We're a-comin' to Dixie, so keep a pot of beans warm!

My dearest Bowling-Mate!

The "Surgeon" sends you a happy happy Birthday-message.
All the best and how the advertisement at the alley would say "Bowl for fun and health", which is essential once you turn 40!
I attach two precious pix from our world-bowling league extravaganza many many years ago when 4 young lads were full of fun and gutter balls.
As a special treat I dedicate my (very) white bowling shoes to you my dear friend and I wish you a bowling experience with plenty of fun and health for the next 40 years...and no more gutter balls!
All the best for YOU and your loved ones!
Miss ya,
Your friend Thommy (the surgeon;-)
